Presidential Media Chat: Some of the things President Goodluck Jonathan said on 4th May, 2014

The 7th edition of the Presidential Media Chat has come to an end. A burning issue discussed is the missing school girls. President Jonathan said wherever the girls are, the military would get them. He said security personnel are working round the clock to rescue the girls and also pleaded with parents and guardians of the missing girls to cooperate with them to get the girls freed. He said no negotiation has taken place because no one or group has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping.

On reports of them being married off, the president said "To who?". He said the Principal of the school told him that 53 of the girls have escaped from the kidnappers.

On people comparing the Niger Delta militants with Boko Haram men, he said the BH men are faceless and so makes it difficult to even have discussions with them. He said he first met Niger Delta warlords like Asari Dokubo in the state house in a meeting called by former Pres. Olusegun Obasanjo and the militant leaders were there to lay down their grieviances. He said Boko Haram men are terrorists as their ideology is different from that of the Niger Delta militants as those ones do not go about bombing market places and killing people. He said a lot more. Please continue...
On rumours of helicopters dropping food stuff for boko haram members, he said no one has come out with pictures to authenticate these claims. He said "One does not need network to take pictures" but no one has been able to take any picture showing helicopters dropping foodstuff'.

On why his government hasn't dared to go to Sambisa Forest where Boko Haram men are believed to be staying, GeJ said “If I go there or send any of my ministers they will just kill you.”
On the Federal Governments directive of schools and Government offices to shut down during the World Economic Forum Africa which is to hold from Wednesday 7th to Friday 9th, he said the move was needful so as to control free flow of traffic. He said Nigeria is not the first place to do such and that when he was in Netherland for the Nuclear summit, some institutions were shut down during the course of the summit. He said that places like Davos where the World Economic summit takes place cannot close down institutions because every year the WEF takes place there and the place has been designed to host the world yearly. He said private enterprises were not compelled to close down but are only advised to close down so as to help traffic free flow.

On seeking international help for the security challenges Nigeria is facing, Pres. Jonathan said he has reached out to Pres. Obama twice on the matter and security personnel from America were sent down to Nigeria. He also said he has reached out to the Presidents of France, China and other neighboring countries such as  Cameroon, Ghana and Benin republic for assistance. On some Northern Governors visit to the US, he said it is not a Federal Government arrangement. He said he is always pained whenever he hears any Nigerian passes on as a result of the madness called Boko Haram.

On the Rebasing figures and unemployment, Pres. Jonathan said even with the Economy rebasing, Nigerian Government cannot employ everyone but would only create the best environment for the private sector to excel. He said it was a good thing for Nigeria to be hosting the WEF Africa and said according to the Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, visitors for the WEF Africa have began to show interest in investing in Nigeria.

On the alleged missing $20b, Pres Jonathan said its now a phenomenon for any government in power in Nigeria to record a story of missing funds. He said with the money being claimed to be missing, such moneies would no doubt have adverse effect on the economy. He said if such amount of money is missing, America would know about it and said nobody should deceive themselves.

On Minister of Petroleum Dieziani Alison Madueke going to court to stop investigations on the N10b private jet scandal, Pres Jonathan said he is not aware she's gone to court. He said as a Minister, she has spent more of her time appearing before the parliament than doing her job and said it appears there is a case of parliamentary dictatorship by the members of the house of Representatives. He said they are all politicians and so would also bring politics into their activities. He said he does not see Dieziani as being corrupt and so cannot drop her as a Minister. According to him, there is nothing wrong in her hiring private jets and that other Ministers and politicians also hire private jets.

On his declaration to run again, he said he believes that is not what is important to Nigerians. He said security, food etc are the things on the minds of Nigerians and also said the PDP which is the "Champion, one with the cup" is waiting for the opposition to field their candidates so that the PDP would know who they are up against.

On claims that he said Boko Haram has infiltrated his cabinet, he said he never made such a comment, and that the way journalists twist words makes one wonder sometimes. He said what he said was that Boko Haram has infiltrated the Government which is made up of the Judiciary, Executive and the Parliamentary. He said he never said they have infiltrated his cabinet which is made up of the Vice President and the Ministers.

On the strike by Polytechnic lecturers, he said "we are handling it".

On the recommendations that would come out from the ongoing National CONFAB, he promised that whatever recommendations from the confab would not be stopped.

While ending the chat, Pres. Jonathan pleaded with the Parents and Guardians of the missing Chibok girls to come out with the identities of the missing girls. He said with the list from WAEC, its obvious that most of them, about 90% are Christians. He pleaded with the parents to cooperate with security agents.

Some of the comments he made
* “I don’t know where they are… there is no confirmation of the location of the schoolgirls, you are a journalist, you know more than me.”

* "If I exercise 40/50% of my powers, Nigerians would say I am a dictator. Some African leaders who used only 60 were condemned as dictators"

* “I assure you that we will get the girls out but we can only do it with the co-operation of their parents and guardians.”

* "Over 70% of what they call corruption in Nigeria, is mere common theft. The word corruption is being abused, it's just mere theft."

* “Even when I’m in church I am monitoring what is happening. Anytime I get reports of an attack somewhere… my face will change immediately… my expression will change. It used to happen every Sunda

* “Anytime I hear of any one Nigerian dies I feel pained… even if it’s a Boko Haram member – I am their president.”y.”

* “Pakistan terrorists have been fighting terrorism for over 10 years now so it’s not something that a 6 months State of Emergency can solve.”

* “The Petroleum Minister has appeared before the Parliament for over 200 days… in the Nigerian Parliament you’ll agree with me that there is more politics than work.”

* “People have been confusing corruption with stealing. If public officers steal money they term it under corruption….”

* "PDP is the champion. We are the ones holding the belt. We are waiting to see the challenger"

* "The popular Nollywood wasn't captured in the assessment of the economy as Africa's strongest'

* “If Sanusi hadn’t been suspended he would have come up with a different figure… If anyone steals $50 billion or $20 billion anywhere America will know, they will tell you where it is; it is their money.”

Abducted school girls: First Lady asks women to stop protesting

Patience Jonathan has asked women to stop protesting over the abducted Chibok girls, Daily Trust reports. Mrs Jonathan expressed her frustration yesterday evening at the unwillingness of the Borno state first lady and other Borno state women to work with her on the missing girls. She said she can't be crying more than the bereaved.According to Mrs Jonathan who burst into tears as she expressed her displeasure, she said she had called for a meeting with first ladies of the various states as well as some borno state officials to enquire on how the girls were kidnapped and find a way out but was suprised to see that some first ladies attended but the first lady of the state were the unfortunate incident happened did not honour her invitation.
First Ladies of  Nasarawa, Zamfara, Kaduna, Katsina, Kogi, Gombe, Benue, Abia and Akwa Ibom States attended the meeting as well as Borno State Commissioner of Police, Commissioner for Women Affairs, the principal of Chibok Government Secondary School, the chairman of Chibok Local Government Area, the divisional police officer in the area and the troops on duty when the girls were abducted.

A visibly disappointed Mrs Jonathan said Mrs Shettima was being unconcerned over the girls' abduction. She accused the Borno state women of playing games with the whole kidnapping story.
"Before all these killings, I called and told the first lady of Borno State to let us come together. She answered me yes, but when the kidnap happened, I called her, she did not answer me. I invited her, she did not turn up even up till today. No woman will fold her arms when her house is on fire. Today my house is on fire.
"Before last Friday, I called her and she promised to attend the Friday's meeting here. Bit to our greatest surprise, she sent her commissioner for women affairs. Also today, she sent her commissioner for women affairs. She is the mother of Borno State. She is the first mother of these missing girls. I am their grandmother. She is not coming out. All Nigerian women are calling her. If she is not concerned and she says she doesn't want her people to be safe, then it is left to her. If you tell us you are not crying, why should I cry more than the bereaved. If I cry more than the bereaved, the world would ask me a question.
"If after today, Borno women say we should not help them, then Nigerian women, don't demonstrate again. If you demonstrate and police do you anything, you are on your own. Borno women are playing games. Nigerian women should not go out for demonstration. Don't use school children for demonstration again. Borno women are not ready for cooperation"
"People are dying. How can you play politics when you see your fellow human beings dying. Nigerian women, I beg you to support me. Why we will join our husbands to kill others. We want the killings to stop. If we don't get to know the whereabouts of our daughters, the next thing is they (Boko Haram) will get to us. I am not accusing anybody. My own is let us stop killings and kidnapping. Let us put a stop to this.
"We don't know what might happen. We don't wear bullet-proofs. I am not exempting my self or my husband. If I am found guilty, let me go instead of blood to flow. If our constitution is the problem, let them amend it. Today's meeting will not end because the abducted children are still not out. If you say I should go and sleep, I would go and sleep. But if you say we should move forward to see the end of this, we would go forward", she said.

We Are Behind The 276 Abducted Girls & More Attacks Are Coming - Boko Haram Leader

The leader of Boko Haram Islamic sect, Imam Abubakar Shekau has just released a video claiming responsibility of forceful abduction of 276 female students from  Government Secondary School, Chibok in Borno State, Saharareporters.com reports.
Shekau in the video issued to selected journalists stated,  'I am the one that abducted them", and more attacks will follow soon.
Meanwhile Sahara reporters are also claiming the first lady was the one who ordered the arrest of Naomi Nyadar, a prominent campaigner for the kidnapped girls. Find it below…

Nigeria’s first lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan has ordered the arrest and detention of one of the prominent campaigners for abducted Chibok girls.
Naomi Nyadar was arrested minutes after she returned home from a marathon meeting with the first lady and several wives of state governors at the Presidential Villa.
During the meeting, the first lady reportedly accused Nyadar of fabricating   the abduction story, accusing her of being an active member of Boko Haram.
Lawyers to Nyadar said she was first detained at the Asokoro police station with another woman from Chibok before being moved to an unknown destination after protesters began gathering at the police station to demand her release.
Yesterday Mrs. Jonathan dramatically broke down in tears on national television during a meeting with the principal of Government High School where the girls were abducted three weeks ago. During her widely televised “weeping”, Mrs. Jonathan seem to cast doubt on the abduction saga. She was hostile to the principal asking why she did not come to the presidential villa meeting with other teachers.

Also, last week, the women leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, Kema Chikwe, issued a statement at a  prayer session of the party widely questioning the abduction saga, she later retracted her statement claiming she was misunderstood following condemnation by the public.

Boko Haram Will Start Attacking Bigshots In Nigeria- TB Joshua

Prophet TB Joshua while preaching yesterday, 4thof May, 2014 in his church said Boko Haram will start attacking bigshots in our society. Expressing his shock that political parties such as APC and PDP are against themselves instead of coming together as one to fight Boko Haram in Nigeria, he says it’s quite risky because the group would soon turn back to start attacking them. It will be recalled that, Prophet TB Joshua has not stopped giving different prophesies every Sunday on the altar while he preaches, ever since the over 200 school girls disappeared into thin air. His words after the cut.

“Nigeria is calm; it is the political parties that are not calm. These political parties gave birth to militants and Boko Haram.”
“If our political class does not stop their campaigns and rallies and put aside the name of parties – APC, PDP, Labour – to come together to discuss as Nigeria, these people will turn against them. Any moment from now, you will hear of ‘bigshots’ being attacked.”

“They should suspend all rallies and acrimonious campaigns. It is this division that gave opportunity for hoodlums, militants and Boko Haram to explore and exploit,” he stated.

Four Men Drown Consecutively Inside Well

It has been a sad moment for some residents of Ogoja in Cross River state when three of their neighbours and landlord drowned respectively in a well located inside their compound as they tried to retrieve a bucket which fell into the well. Some of their neighbours have said it’s spiritual and they believe a force was behind it. The story;
One after another, four men entered a water well and drowned while trying to retrieve a bucket when the string cut letting the bucket to sink to the bottom of the well. The incident, which happened along Ogoja Road, Ikom in the Central Senatorial District of Cross River State, attracted sympathisers some of them attributing the tragedy to a spiritual force.

The first person to enter the well, John Ushie, according to a resident of the compound who gave her name as Janet, was preparing to go to  work  that morning and wanted to take his bath. Ushie decided to fetch water from the well but the string with which the bucket he was drawing the water fell inside the well. When the string gave way, he decided to retrieve it by jumping into the well but ended up gulping water and drowned.
His brother, Boniface, who had left the house for  his shop at the Ikom Main Market, was alerted on phone what had happened. He rushed down on Okada and jumped into the well to rescue his brother but also downed in the process.
When Boniface could not come out, another neighbour jumped in to try to rescue the two brothers inside the well. He too drowned.
According to Janet, when the landlord of the compound, Eyung Ebam, saw what had happened, he jumped into the well to rescue the drowned men and he too drowned. “It was at this point that nobody was willing to get into the well and the National Drug Law Enforcement, NDLEA, officials who were mounting a road block close to the house called the Fire Service and they arrived soon ”, the eye witness told Sunday Vanguard.
She explained that when the Fire Service men arrived, one of them jumped into the well with a rope with which he tied the landlord who was the last person to drown in order to pull him out. “He tied the rope around his chest region and gradually his colleagues dragged him out but when he got close to the point they wanted to grab him and pull him out, the rope slipped and he went down again hitting the others inside which may have eventually killed everyone inside,” the neighbour said.
